Christian Catholic Hermit Mystic: On Love of God over Obsession with Temporal

Paul the Apostle repeats the impact of God's Law, the Law of Love.  Jesus so teaches this law, that it is hard to fathom how we can so easily draw away and become confused in the temporal aspects of the temporal human's existence.  One must constantly pray to live God's Law of Love with every moment of thought, emotion, spirit and soul--in some ways leaving the temporal body behind while learning to love others as God loves, yet while asking of our bodies to heed that of God's law of love.

If we read something  that is confused in length and purpose, the intent becomes that of twisting threads of temporal mind and emotions into knots of more temporally created confusion.  Then that which we read (or attempted to read) is not of God's love, but rather that of the temporal love of self, that of creating yet more temporal confusion of laws created by humankind to further elevate the self.

If when trying to exist in other than Christ's simple teachings--and this ca be of those who twist God's law of love into laws of temporally confused words of more power, prestige, privilege, possession and politicization of self, including trying to garner more like-selves as followers of such human-made laws, the simplicity of God Is Love is lost to that person or of what comes out of such a person's temporalized view of the numinous love of God.

To love others as oneself presupposes one's self is in Christ, in God, in the Holy Spirit.  This is the every-moment assessment of self that is so necessary.  To love as God loves, one must be in God.  To love as Christ loves, one must be in Christ.  To love as the Holy Spirit loves, one must be a vessel of the Holy Spirit.  To be consumed with the temporal world--even the temporal world of humankind's temporalization of the Church by the human-created laws which involve yet more temporalization of one's existence in what is a temporalized church--then God's Law of Love is lost to those temporal humans.

This includes the path of life upon which God sets each of us, in whatever format that may be expressed in words.  Those who are so temporal as to not be able to envision a life lived in the Love of the Holy Trinity are not of those of temporal nor spiritual association.  The temporalization of Christ's Church, including the living according to laws created by humankind even if thinking is for Christ's Church, is to have lost the only "law" necessary, and that is that of the love of God and love of others as God loves.

A vocation is not a temporal law.  A vocation of God's calling, ordaining, and consecrating has to do with God and the soul of the person to whom God calls, ordains, and consecrates to Himself in His "law" of Love of God, and love of others through, with, and in God's Love.

Thus, this is all rather simple, is it not?  Christ built His Church upon the law of God's love.  Love God above all else, love others as God loves, which is loving through, with, and in God's Love.  The primary initial and eternal task is to love, to love to learn to love God.  Be draw into His Real Presence in love, not be drawn into temporalized laws of humankind's temporal creation.

A former priest, now an eremite, has asked regarding his leaving the one call to enter into another.  It is simply a matter of God's Law of Love.  God led him out of the one vocation and into the other, despite initial despair of wondering if he had too hastily left the one of which increasingly are temporal laws involving protocols to take leave and then more temporal laws in order to return if even feasible. Then God gave to the man priest, God's way of Love, and of love of the poor and hungry, and love of the God-created earth and seeds.  Then came from God to the man, also the eremitic path, free of temporal laws; for if one is led by God to follow His simple love call to the desert, this may be the desert of the poor whose need is that of food to sustain them.

The God-called soul thus entered into God's call of a vocation into the desert of God's leading and providing.  God called, God consecrated this former priest as one of His hermits.  The man in God's love has since helped the poor and hungry in a land of which the poor are being taught to sustain the earth and grow their own food which is good for their bodies--but which also is very good for the renewability of the beloved soil of the earth that God created.

All is well now with that soul, now a priest forever, more of the Order of Melchizedek than of temporal church laws, and an eremite in the desert of life, yet in the fullness of love of God and love of others as God loves.  He exists in the depths of the Law of Love Is God without temporal-created-by-humankind- laws of temporal words which create more temporal questions needing more temporal unraveling, than ever does require of God's Law of Love.

Be at peace within and without, in God's Law.  The Law of God Is Love.  Ponder, embrace, think, feel, and live in the Trinity of God's Love.  It is quite simple.  Breath by breath, consider what is God's love in each action, thought, feeling, and of what one's soul and spirit contains.  Obsession with the laws of humankind's temporally constructed laws of the temporal (even of the temporalized church), or freedom in the simplicity and eternal fecundity of God's Law of Love.  Love God above all else and love others as God loves--even more so than one can love oneself (for love of self is rooted in God's love of each of us).

This is truly simple, is it not?

Reference, Letter to the Romans 13: 8;

"Brothers and sisters:  Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law."

[Attempted to read some lengthy, online writings of obsessions with the temporal.  I was left needing relief for the eyes and stomach, the mind, heart, and soul.  I write the above as a reminder to self and any others.  Obsesssion with the temporal laws created by humankind (including for the church) is not in kind with God's law of Love.  Pray God, keep us on the path of God's Law of Love.  There is the Law of Love in Christ with Christ as Head of His Church; there is the Law of Love for those who are in Christ, in God, and in the Holy Spirit who comprise the Body of Christ: the Church.  Temporal laws created by temporalized humankind are not God's Law of Love.  Temporalized laws create more questions, problems, divisions, and chaos--not peace nor love of God above all things, not love of others as God loves, not as love of the self as loved by God.  Stay clear of such; protect my soul.]

Catholic and God's Hermit: Seeking a Word

Upon awakening, the pain did not seem to immediately register but the world did, opening the eyes to daylight and the green of earth outside the window.  I did not want to be awakened to another day of suffering.  So I began to praise God.  That is my "technique" for countering my reaction to living with pain.  God understands fully; He knows my body, mind, heart, and soul in this world and out of this world.

Took the hours' past-due pain med, stood up, very weak, but went to kitchen:  coffee, oatmeal, back to bed to sip and eat reclining.  The usual routine, this, and added the magnesium, calcium, D, K, and B-12 vitamin supplements.  (I'm doing all temporally, physically possible that is blessedly available to try in building bodily energy so that I might get up, dress, and cope with this consistently higher level of pain.  I'm grateful to God for the many blessings given me in the temporal.  But I am utterly depleted physically.)

Text Dr. H. and express the temporal pain experience and of my losing ground in the physical.  For when up getting the coffee and oatmeal, my legs are weak.  The entire body feels as if having to push to just stay upright to do the simple motions of coffee machine and to cook the easy oatmeal.  It is the same every morning, but this one am even more weak in body.

I comment upon R., the man who last fall spoke on phone in three-way conversation including Dr. H. who knows this man.  R. had a miraculous relief from pain to a point of being "cured" as if through a focused breath "technique".  I'd listened last night to another lecture by Dr. Bernard McGinn, this one on the prayer life and advice of various mystics of earlier centuries.

McGinn, in his life-long study of Christian mysticism, points out that people can but prepare ourselves,   Develop a prayer life that usually begins with verbal, then mental or meditation on God; for Christians this includes aspects of Christ's life as well as the Trinity--the love of the Holy Spirit that binds Christ the Son with God the Father.  McGinn then comments upon prayer at some point becoming more of a contemplation of the Trinity-- a more wordless and imageless form of prayer.

The scholar and theologian emphasizes yet again in this particular lecture, that we cannot make experiences happen, that a mystic cannot make himself a mystic nor to have legitimate spiritual experiences occur.  Not everyone will be a mystic in that more extreme aspect.  He gives as example that many can play basketball but not all will have more talent, not be on the pro teams.  And he stresses there is no technique in particular that will make a person a mystic with mystical experiences.  Yet we all are to prepare our minds, hearts, and souls with the desire and openness to receiving God, to desiring union with God, and prayer is a means of preparation.  Prayer is our communication with God.

But God alone infuses the grace or graces.  He imparts graces through and of Himself and His Son Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.  All we people can do is to prepare ourselves through love of the Trinity and through the exercise, if you will, of prayer.  And to pray constantly as St. Paul mentions in his epistles-- many of the early mystics explain is to have our intentions be that of always directed or focused in love of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So prayer becomes our way of life, our existence, by means of intention as we cannot always practice or exercise prayer in conscious gradations:  verbal, mental, contemplation.

Dr. H. texts about calling later today.  He says he might be able to offer some techniques to help with the pain or perhaps my sense of fatigue and inability to seemingly get up and function much at all.  I remind him that it is not a matter of techniques, all this situation. I add that two people could do the breathing techniques that R. did, but not have the result R. experienced and I assume is still experiencing the remission of physical pain. God allowed R's outcome due to God giving that grace, that miracle.  However, I text that we can discuss the topic of "techniques".  (Actually, it is mind, heart, and soul preparation, practice--that of prayer.)

Perhaps there will be good from discussing as I need feedback verbally, or so it seems.  I sent an email yesterday through chancellor to bishop regarding my understanding of the need for balance, a reassurance that I have a grasp of these matters of temporal and mystical "worlds" and describe what I mean, and of the necessity of being "grounded".  I emailed twice to the parish priest, further sharing some spiritual thoughts and understandings.

By having written emails (including to try to express some of these thoughts to a quite elderly friend), I recognize I am feeling a need for discussion--but what I really could use right now is feedback with those who would have knowledge of or life purpose in such matters and topics.  Dr. H. is best for that, it currently seems, for the clerics are too busy to just "talk" or correspond.  I knew and know this, yet was unrealistic in reaching out.  Dr. H., while not a religious, does have mind and soul interest in such matters.  Also a major benefit is that he has known me for years, is innately wise, expeirenced, and has time and availability.

The very elderly friend I emailed is not interested even if Catholic, to have email nor spiritual discussion.  I know this; yet my need for discussion or feedback right now is so strong that I emailed the other day, regardless.  I know there will be no response of any spiritual matter or aspect.  I do know the person prays for me and has a spiritual life, of course, a prayer life and daily lectio divina (reading Scripture in personal, interactive-with-Holy Spirit,  meditative way).

But when in a transition phase in particular, so much is being opened up by the Holy Spirit, in the mind, heart, and soul--one must go with whom God reasonably provides.  So Dr. H. it is!  He has always possessed prescient wisdom from the early years, and he has interest in God and spiritual matters; all this counts.  Plus, he is a gift of God.

What I'm trying to point out for those readers who are seeking God, is that we take what and whom God provides when needed, and it may not always be a priest, bishop, or anyone ordained.  Go with God's flow.  I had even thought in recent days that I'd love to be able to contact Dr. Bernard McGinn for discussion and to ask some questions!  But I realize God has provided Dr. McGinn through his lectures online on various topics per Christian mysticism!

Sometimes, no matter the particulars or breadth of silence of solitude, we find a need to discuss with another, the matters of the mind, heart, and especially soul--which all do affect and interface with the body, temporal life.  I'm realizing I miss the late Spiritual Da who provided that occasional contact, for as one grows in the spiritual life, the contact does not need to be frequent.

The soul weans away from such need for human discussion or as it was called by early desert hermits--seeking "a word" from a more progressed, wiser, older hermit.  The hermit needs a jump-start, so to speak--so travel miles to the hut or cave of an older hermit and once in the old one's presence, asks:  Father, give me a "word".  So it is similar in our day that we ask for some advice or counsel from a wise, spiritually attuned, other.  The "word" from the elder hermits would usually be brief--some wisdom or even a saying that the seeker then could take to ponder and meditate upon, and put into practice.

In my case, some has to do with the bodily pain, of course--which is complicating this current, major, transition phase.  I finally made the tangible effort to call the pain doctor and left message with his medical tech--essentially asking for a "word", as well!  I want to know if the neurosurgeon request went through and if they've had any feedback, for I've not received a call from the neurosurgeon's office in the three weeks or so since the pain doctor told me he was referring me for the intrathecal pump surgery.  So we ask for a "word" in temporal matters more often than what we'd recognize as similar to the "word" a spiritual, a holy God-seeker would ask on spiritual matters.

Mostly, we seek a "word" when we read Scripture, the Living Word, the Word of God, or often simply stated "the Word."  And for those well along the way, the path, in seeking Divine Union with God, when we read His "Word," we are reading at a depth or level of understanding in that the "Word" becomes God's speaking to us directly.

The "Word" that Jesus gives me today is that He is sending the Advocate to help me--the Holy Spirit, and that Jesus has to leave the world in order for Him to send the Holy Spirit in His place.  Jesus could not live indefinitely as God-Man on earth, for His mission on earth was that of showing us the Way as we live on earth, and to die for our sins and salvation, and to show us the Way forward in our own dying physically and of our rising, but of the Way to God spiritually, also, while we are on earth.

I'd best stop writing which I'd prefer to do, and get up for the second cup of coffee, and then add the protein powder to the vitamin water, and simply get dressed so that I will be at least physically readied to try to perform some physical tasks that might help me distract the mind from physical pain as well as to being to strengthen muscles that are unused.  I must try.  I have no idea if this is "it" for me as far as being bed-ridden, but I must at least try to build some muscle and stamina.  I've been through prolonged phases of major transition before, but none have quite been like this.

I noticed in an old blog years ago that I was in a spiritual transition, and these transitions do tend to also involve the temporal aspects of body, also.  But then I'd written of calling the Spiritual Da, and he said, "You HAVE to pull out of this!"  He used to also say in minor transition phases that also affected the body, "Get out and back into the gardens!"  Manual labor, in other words, and especially for me, working with the plants and trees and earthly hummus, would help my body pull out, and through which there generally would be some sort of breakthrough within.

Also, as God Himself through the Love of Jesus Christ His Son, and by the power of the Holy Spirit will give us a "Word" within our inner beings.  This level of receiving a Word from God Himself, is a grace.  But we do all we can of our own volition and tangible means and preparing ourselves to be open to receiving a "word" which is from God Himself, God alone, solus Deus--meant for ourselves but a "Word" to us within us, always is beneficial and rather universal in effect and helpfulness.

Dear God, the physical pain in this body is fatiguing and depleting to a point that I find myself not even breathing regularly, often, and definitely not deeply.  It is as if the body itself wants to shut down the breath in order to rise out of this temporal form of such physical heaviness and pain.

God bless His Real Presence in us!  Hold onto, nourish always, Faith, Hope, and Love in God!

[The pain doctor's nurse called and gave a "word."  Others are experiencing increased pain due to weather.  The referral just went out to neurosurgeon a week ago and can take awhile before I might hear from that office.  Go out when there is sun and try to absorb the D from sun.  Try to do leg movement when up to get blood circulating.  "Hang in and hang on."  I'm reminded that seeking a word for temporal means is useful and helpful.]

Catholic hermit, God's hermit: Awaiting What's Next

I read this Gospel the other day, of Jesus Christ according to St. John 15:18-20a, and since.  Of course it seems deeply meant for my soul.  Yes, I know it is meant for everyone.  But Jesus is speaking to me and desiring me to remember it beyond my mind and heart.  Remember the Word He speaks to me in my soul.

"Jesus said to [me]: '...If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.  Remember the word I spoke to you....'"

This is the reminder that I do not "belong" to that world--and He has for many years tried to get me to not only understand but also to accept.  That world is needful, good, His creation; it just is not where God wants me to linger.  It is not the out of the world where He wants me to be in order to fulfill His purpose, the mission He's given me from the beginning.

Years of preparation and progression, years of delights and trials have passed.  For years God has been patient with me and still would be--if the pruning and now this major pruning as if truncating my body to nearly a stump, were not sufficient.  There might be yet more pruning, though.  Who knows but God?

I am going to try very hard now, as I've made another acceptance--what I call a "full acceptance."  Made it at the counter on brief time up for cup of coffee this morning.  But who knows, truly, but God if my acceptance is actually "full".  I've made full acceptances before, and asking God to use me as He wills.

I feel sick unto death.  In other words, the pain is so sickening and now am so depleted with this major crucifixion of the  major transition, that I would like to die in order to be in union with God forever.  Sometimes the pain in the feet and the sensations, or then the heart pain, has me concerned that what is within will become external.

Tell myself not to be concerned; it won't matter whatever happens, not really.  I'm in transition and perhaps already transited.  Likely so, this.  Who could really know but God?

What I do know is that I do not mean nor intend to rile others, but I fear perhaps I have in writing even what it was that I needed to absorb that has helped me let go of that world and opened and understanding the why, now, of the need for being taken out of that world and transitioning to what is next, that I can grasp in the intellect and understanding but no further.  Again, only God knows fully what it is when chosen out of that world.

I've written emails today to those I must not pester.  Writing continues to be what helps me get the mind out of pain.  However, a thought as come to try not to write, at least not emails.  I am writing to those who are not going through this major transition, at least not at this time.  They have their own transitions, and my prayer is that of transitions leading to union with God in the very real and conscious sense of the mystical reality of Divine union with and in God the Father, through the Son, and by the power of the Holy Spirit.

For this is what the Trinity desires of us.  For this we were created in the ultimate, eternal, mystical sense.

I'm trying, also, to not be concerned that this level of pain not continue, for being in bed most of the time for days on end, or then getting up and doing a couple or three hours of manual labor and then being down in bed for several days more--the practicality of such an existence is not going to be viable if it continues for a long time.

I'm listening to more lectures--not writing notes, not concerned if I do not remember details or even if the bodily pain or otherwise intrudes on the listening and the remembering on surface.  I trust in the Holy Spirit that it has come into the inner sense through the outer senses, and there is good the Lord has for me in such as now, some review of the prayer that is the mystics' contemplation of, with, God.

The writing must slow and be less until the time is otherwise, through the transition phase and when and if God has something for what is next.  In the meantime, if I write such as now, these bits and pieces, it is partly due to flight from bodily pain at a sickening level, plus such as the Word of Jesus, shared above from John 15.

God bless His Real Presence in us!

Catholic Hermit, God's Hermit: Joan of Arc; Still Simmering

Writing is such an integral part of my existence, including pain management.  The pain requires "activity" of sorts to help distract, but the pain also needs lots of rest; so the body needs to take many breaks and sometimes is in bed for days or mostly in bed over weeks, or now it's been over a year.  The type of pain over a year ago had more to do with the spinal cord increasingly being pinched off--nearly totally, plus the other nerves impeded and a disintegrated vertebra and bone spurs a' plenty.  All that is repaired, but the pain post surgery has more to do with the Adhesive Arachnoiditis.

So it goes.  Ordered some better quality B-complex that the pain doctor had told me would absorb best in the system.  B-complex plus separate, added B-12 helps with pain, as does Vitamin D in far more amounts than a non-pained body.  But I had some less-absorptive B-Complex here in Solus Deus Hermitage, and I like to be thrifty.  I decided to use up what I have before re-ordering the B-complex methylcobalamin.

But I woke up this morning with the thought (brought by my angel or Holy Spirit or some caring being from the other side) in my mind of what might help the bodily fatigue and added pain.  I also took an iron supplement and am trying to drink more water as well as with plant protein powder.  I tend to not eat much as the body seems not to require much food, am more vegan than not--although I have no particular reason.  I prefer vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, grains; but I'm not rigid against eating meat or fish.  Regardless, it will take a month, perhaps, to notice improvement if some of this draining pain and fatigue is helped by the methylcobalamin form of B-complex.

And yes, I praise God for being able to purchase vitamins and supplements of various types, and healthy food which tends toward a diet that is non-inflammatory type.  As I have quipped in the past and it serves a very good purpose and with some humor as I age:  We do our best with what we've got left!

Today is the 100th Anniversary of St. Joan of Arc's canonization on May 16, 1920.  Pope Benedict XVI  described her trial in May of 1431 as "a distressing page in the history of holiness and also an illuminating page on the mystery of the Church which, according to the words of the Second Vatican Council, is 'at once holy and always in need of purification' (Lumen Gentium, n. 8)."

At the time of the trial the Catholic clerics had their minds made up to burn her at the stake in Rouen's [France] marketplace.  They were opposed to her politically as well as found her mystical gifts unnerving.  She died by fire on the morning of May 30, repeating the Holy Name of Jesus as her soul left her 19-year-old body.

In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI said of St. Joan, "...the Name of Jesus, invoked by our Saint until the very last moments of her earthly life was like the continuous breathing of her soul, like the beating of her heart, the centre of her whole life...with her luminous witness St. Joan of Arc invites us to a high standard of Christian living:  to make prayer the guiding motive of our days; to have full trust in doing God's will, whatever it may be; to live charity without favouritism, without limits and drawing, like her, from the love of Jesus a profound love for the Church."

I so love Jeanne d'Arc!  This morning I listened to Leonard Cohen's creation of the song in her honor, sung as a duet with Jennifer Warnes, including creative juxtaposition of art representative of the saint.  [link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtwUyDPXROQ].  In fact, I've been praying, asking Joan of Arc to help me find God's will and way for my embarkation to the New Direction.  She is answering my request, helping me today.

While the ingredients, per se, of the New Direction remain on "simmer", ideas are solidifying in the metaphoric slow-cooker.  Back up a day.  Yesterday I had a lengthy conversation with Dr. H.  I caught him up-to-date as best I could, on the CL603 dilemma I faced with the increasing lack of peace of the Holy Spirit that God willed what He had not desired for 20 years.  I'd answered in writing the questions had been asked.  But the major aspect for me personally, was the looming interview with a non-cleric that would be most difficult to avoid aspects of my inner life, my mystical experiences.  The lack of inner peace grew.

Thus, Fr. V. emailed and suggested I email the bishop and explain--share my "story" with him so that he might understand my spiritual predicament as well as the conviction and vision/locution and other reasons why all these years, living the hermit vocation without public profession or as a diocese hermit, seemed God's will and also was best for hidden life other than my anonymous writing.  Then, Fr. V. said, if the bishop approved of my living the vocation as I had been, or if not, I was to simply go forth living the hermit life God had chosen for me, and live it as a fulfilled hermit.

It took a day to absorb the bishop's response.  I repeated in my words in an email to the chancellor, to see if I was grasping the bishop's email to me.  Yes, I had grasped it, the chancellor replied to my encapsulation, to wit:  "I think I am grasping what Bishop means.  A canon law does not seem to be necessary; it does not validate a vocation.  It is but an official recognition, of which I do not need.  I must simply keep on living the life to which God has called me. "

However, there remains the turning point, the major shift in life phase that I've been sensing with increasing magnitude and inner energy--if not some inner angst. Through the trial, of sorts, of build up of canon law approval process and the growing certitude within that God wanted me to in essence choose Him over the CL603 "official" recognition, I was taken through a desert all its own, of great sense of loss and abandonment.

I am brought to face the reality that I did not sense, do not--with increasing means over the 25 years of God's gradually removing me--fit in with the temporal Catholic world and not in parishes, per se.  This is difficult to explain, for yes, I am part of the Body of Christ, but my purpose and mission involves the mystical realm, and the Lord has been showing me by His withdrawing me in more temporal, tangible ways over time--despite my lack of cooperation.  Yet through various efforts all very good, of my offering my temporal gifts and talents to the temporal aspects of parishes and Church, the Lord always pulled me out although sometimes allowed what I'd offered to remain and continue in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy organized and developed.

But sometimes not; in many instances the Lord allowed the efforts to dissolve, which I could not understand the why, which added to the upset.  Yet I would continue on, trying yet again, until the Lord had my angel show me to the Stairway to Heaven.  The mystical ecstasy during Masses began and remained no matter prayer nor temporal efforts, for the mystical phenomenon to stop.

Yesterday Dr. H. asked me why I'd be wanting to develop, organize, lead or set up others to lead various good works in parishes or dioceses, when I had this inner life and also was called to the hermit vocation?  I explained that I felt guilty, of sorts, that God had given me gifts and talents, educational background and skills, and I kept thinking it was wrong for me not to offer myself in that way to the temporal Church.

Indeed, in one major instance that the Virgin Mary came to me in a dream and instructed me in a major outreach I was to organize and lead--and also in a couple of miraculous grants bringing huge sums of money to a parish school and soup kitchen--those kept going even though the Lord plucked me out.  Was a terribly painful episode.  I have not understood other than a penance.  Was soon after that the Lord made it known to me that He chose for me the hermit vocation--a vocation that I'd not have ever chosen for myself nor even knew much about at the time.

Yet as I write this now, I get it!  For the first time in all these years, I realize the chronology: the soup kitchen the Virgin Mary had me develop and the grants written were prior to my hermit profession and vow; the other efforts afterward when I left the hometown and was called to a city, I was then in my  hermit life.  And while I had some assignments for God that I had to complete which brought their own trials and sufferings, the offerings in organizing and developing what would otherwise be excellent for parishes and the diocese--were oddly not allowed to flourish--and I emphasize oddly.  There is no other logical explanation why my efforts in offering temporal gifts, talents, education did not flourish after being developed, and not even being able to be a lector or a sacristan lasted when the mystical ecstasies at Mass began.

God was enforcing and forming my hermit life; and He also was trying to get me to understand that I did not belong to that world.  I was shown that, told it in locutions, and also told it in temporal ways.  I literally had priests tell me as such; one listed very positive things of me, but said I could not come to his parish because a mystic like me--the parishioners would crucify me, and he'd not be able to stop them.

Then I moved to a location in which there was one small parish, and the priest was most uncomfortable with my presence; and the state at Mass was as if I'd be chained in hell.  My (late) spiritual father told me not to go--to have spiritual communion in my hermitage.  Then a new priest came a two years later, but he did not want me at Mass due to the mystical state.  So I remained away and had spiritual communion until finally that priest had a couple bring Communion on Sundays when they were able.

Up to the past year and a half in this diocese.  The Lord brought me here due to temporal aspects: financial feasibility, better climate for pain situation, pain doctor, and excellent surgeon (as it turns out desperately needed spine surgery).  The parish priest wanted me to be at Mass but with needed caution, in a day chapel; but even being at Mass has not been for a long time due to the spine surgery, and now COVID-19: older adults are to not come to Mass until further notice, potentially not until a vaccine is available.

And all this back history helps me in facing what God has been trying for a long earth-time, to get me to grasp.  I truly need to stop stressing and freaking out over what did not make sense to me, or seemed surely not right.  I truly do not belong in the temporal Catholic world, not in the parishes, not in religious orders, and not as a specific CL603 hermit.  But I do belong in His Church; I do have a "place" in the Church.  I belong in the mystical Catholic world; I am to be a Catholic hermit but no need to be officially recognized as the canon law does not validate the vocation, anyway.  God validates the vocation by His choosing and how one lives it.  My "place" is in the mystical Church and as a mystic, which leads me to the embarkation in the New Direction.

There is a growing peace of understanding, of my letting go of that which I have not understood as to why I was to let go.  It would be difficult for more temporally-utilized souls to grasp, for even I could not "see" why or how God would not want what seems so good, why I was prohibited one way or another or several.  Even now, it is irrefutable, even down to the bishop's email which was such good news I could not comprehend what he was saying for a day.  Needed to go over it and asked Fr. V. to go over it to help me understand if this means I can be what God chose for me--a Catholic hermit but in the way He wills.  It makes much sense, of course, that the canon law recognized and diocese hermit in a parish would not be advisable or helpful to church or to mystic hermit.

And that is where the Lord has been leading me today in clearer understanding of the New Direction.  It is actually where He's had me for some time--really since my angel told me I was being taken to the Stairway to Heaven shortly before the ecstasies during Masses began.  I was being taken out of the temporal Catholic world, in essence as well as increasingly in tangible, practical, physicality.  Even the canon law aspect for a hermit is suited for non-mystic, more temporal Catholic world persons.  Perhaps that is even why the CL603 hermit who also writes of hermit life regularly, has been at odds with my Catholic hermit vocation and how God unfolds it, as well as my writing.

Different brushstrokes by the Master Artist on the same Masterpiece of His One Catholic and Apostolic Church.  But frankly, I have run out of much at all to write about of the hermit vocation.  It is a vehicle, is the vocation, to get  a soul from one point to another in the spiritual journey.  It will be my vehicle for life as I assume it will be for the CL603 hermit/s.  Not often in history has the Lord called a hermit out of the vocation to some other of His purposes.

And while I've been shown that the CL603 hermit vocation has taken on a different format from the traditional historical hermit vocation, I have nothing more to write of the differences; I've written plenty, and it is not even subject matter that my mind, heart, and soul enjoys. That tells one, in itself, that my choosing what God chose for me as His hermit is best for a mystic soul who would no more fit into the canon law public profession and diocese recognition than I did in leading parish or diocese programs and outreach activities.

I've written much about hermit saints and hermit ways and hermit traditions and history, and hermit writings and wisdoms.  I have written, though, also, of the daily type unfolding of my life as a consecrated Catholic hermit (not CL603 type), and of various other aspects of my spiritual journey which has been from my viewpoint both blessed and chaotic.  But I really have nothing more to write on the hermit vocation "vehicle".   I leave that to others to write-- CL603 in all aspects they desire or on whatever else of hermit vocation.

Back to yesterday's phone call.  Dr. H. said he'd been thinking about me prior to our phone discussion, as we've known each other for 35 years.  He said, he had to admit, that he would never want to have to live my life.  We laughed.  I wouldn't want it, either; but I've got it, and perhaps it will proceed with fewer--at least external--jolts and lightning bolts in whatever time remains for me on this earth, than the previous years.

But as for a New Direction, yes.  I am getting it, Lord, my mind is getting it; and I am fully, whole-heartedly on board!  Even my soul is eager and thankful and pleased with the New Direction!  My hermit vocation vehicle remains as always, but it is like someone who has been driving a vehicle so long, for years and years, that it is as if driving and the vehicle are second-nature.  There is far more at hand, before me, that God desires of me.

I see the holy mountain as through the clearing fog.  Who is it that will climb the holy mountain?  The Scriptures describe.  Becoming a sherpa or finding one or several, will be helpful.  I'm embarking in the New Direction.  The plans are still simmering, but nearly cooked and to be served, garnishes to be decided upon.

God bless His Real Presence in us!

Catholic Hermit, God's Hermit: Prayer and Love

Yesterday's Gospel reading of Jesus Christ's Holy Words according to St. John 15:9-17, were what I was going to ponder and share whatever insights before I let myself be distracted.  Another night of sleep has passed, and another morning of waking up battling the effects of far too much physical pain on the body.  Yet God's message breaks through the temporal externals, and Jesus' Living Word reaches and uplifts, always, the eternal human soul.

"Jesus said to His disciples:  'As the Father loves me, so I also love you.  Remain in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and remain in His Love.  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.  'This is My commandment:  love one another as I love you'"....

God bless His Real Presence in us!

Now to spend some stilled, silent time in the solitude of an early morning, to praise God and pray for the salvation of the world with whatever thoughts and words and feelings--or none--that come, what may or not.

Catholic Hermit, Hermit of God: St. Julian of Norwich, Mystic

Yesterday, May 13, in addition to being the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima (first apparition to the three young children in the Cova da Iria on outskirts of Fatima, Portugal), the date is also the Feast of the mystic and anchoress, St. Julian of Norwich. In fact, the date of Julian's grave illness and beginning of the visions (she refers to them as "showings") occurred on May 13, 1373.

Julian is not her given name; no one knows many facts of her early life other than approximate dates of her life and that her mother and parish priest were at her bedside, fearing she would die from the grave illness she experienced when age thirty-and-one-half years of age.  She recovered rather miraculously from the illness, to which she attributed to God be the glory of her healing as well as the "showings" which were revealed during the course of the illness.

She then became an anchorite; she lived in a room constructed beside the parish church, St. Julian in Norwich, England.  One window faced into the church for her to receive communion and participate in Mass; another window faced outward to the street at which people would come to ask her prayers and spiritual advice, as her reputation spread regarding wise counsel.  It was the practice for anchorites to take the name for themselves, of the name of the church to which their anchorholds were attached.

Julian was educated, could write with ample vocabulary and also was familiar with writings available at the times.  She referred to the Trinity as Father, Mother and Nurse--representing the loving, nurturing nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  The use of feminine to refer to God had previously been used in the writings of St. William of Thierry; so Julian was considered to be familiar with his use of that imagery, but it is noted that he did not receive the criticism for doing so that Julian received.

It also is surmised that Julian at some point had been in a convent, as the probably means of her education and familiarity with theological thought and writing up to her time period.  She may have received her education in convent or as a young girl being taught with other young girls in convent school in some fashion. Also, there is no knowledge of her having married.

One aspect of St. Julian's life overview and introduction commentary (The Classics of Western Spirituality, St. Julian of Norwich: Showings) that stands out personally, is that of Julian's maturation in the understanding of the visions over the course of her writing them initially (short form), and then over the years writing a long form with greater detail and insight of interpretation.

It is true of mystical experiences, that to the mystic, they are more clear, more actual and real, the vivid details not leaving the memory as they remain as more real and valid than are events in of temporal life.  Also, with time, the mystic becomes less hesitant in sharing what is experienced and "seen," not feeling insecure or as concerned in how others might criticize.  Julian in her longer form of writing the showings through the years, no longer felt a need to be practically apologetic or demean herself in order to seem overly humble and unworthy in wording such as referring to herself as a lowly worm and other deprecating self-descriptions.

Over the years, a mystic needs grow more confident and secure in the interior gifts given.  The mystic learns to discern and also seeks assistance from trusted others who help discern when concern and questions arise within, but must then rely on God most of all.  A mystic must cease being apologetic and as if shamed about the mystic's way of being; the mystic as everyone, is created by God.  A mystic must learn to be comfortable in his own skin, to be accepting of being "different" from the others, and learn to be deft in managing that they do not belong to "that world"--that beautiful and enticing but "other" world: the temporal.

Yet the mystic interacts with the temporal world for that is part of the purpose and mission of mystics--to do God's will which involves intersecting with the temporal, often through mystical means and to help others to gain glimpses of the reality of the world to which all will come to have their lives and sole beings to exist, in time.  God has varied purposes and missions for mystics just as He has for those called to non-mystic, needful lives.  Padre Pio, once He was through his phase of harsh scrutinies and trials from others and the devil, also, was very interactive as a confessor and spiritual guide, yet despite being no longer isolated in the monastery, he always had to contend with the usual envies and backbiting of those in the temporal who resented his mission as a mystic.  And mystics have the usual sins and temperaments of all types; Padre Pio had a sharpness and gruffness, but with the physical pain he suffered from the stigmata, who could claim to do better in managing it all?

The mystic's purpose and mission in this world of temporal and mystical realms, temporal and mystical church, the mystic's message and experience, and what these mean and the help the mystic's message and purpose can provide others, becomes dominant in function more than should the messenger be concerned with how or if the message will be received.  Thus, Julian of Norwich over many years and as she matured in the temporal and spiritual life, wrote the in depth, longer version of her mystical visions with greater confidence and with more details of which in the shorter, early form she was less secure in sharing.

For mystics, there is always that element of being in a world not that of most persons, the world that for purpose of delineating here can be called the mystical Catholic world or the mystical Catholic church as opposed to the temporal Catholic world or temporal Catholic church.  As I've written elsewhere and emphasized, the temporal is of course very needed and marvelous, and is God's realm as valued and crucial as the mystical; but there are distinctions.  One major factor is that after this temporal life on this earth, all will be then the mystical, not the temporal any longer, and this mystical world will be for all eternity.

For some, such as mystics, the temporal world can seem even uncomfortable in a certain way, and as the mystic grows and comes to greater understanding that what the mystic perceives and experiences is not quite what most people of the temporal perceive and how they experience, the mystic comes to levels and points of acceptance of their reality and "place", if you will, in life.  For awhile which can last years, the mystic lives as if with a foot in both worlds or as if I've expressed, having to try to live a "double life" so as to mask the mystic self from the temporal family and friends who do not grasp or fathom or can be frightened, even, by what the mystic experiences and senses and sometimes is brought to share.  Others also can be fearful of what they, too, witness when a mystic's purpose intersects tangibly, sensibly such as aurally or visibly in the temporal world.

But at a certain points in life the mystic must transition to increasing fullness of the mystical world.  That is why such persons as Julian of Norwich transitioned around the age of 30, and the conclusion of one phase into that of greater awareness of her mystic purpose given by God, was manifested through the grave illness which had her between life and death and in which the visions were given to her over the course of the illness.

That is why a mystic seeks a "place" for existing that creates security and provides the environment for the mystic to grow and bloom, in effect, in order to live and do and be the purposes for which God chose the soul to be born a mystic.  God allows the mystic a foundation through childhood, usually of a loving, protected home life and the security of growing up without recognizing for the most part, that others do not perceive or are not experiencing this other realm, the spiritual, the mystical world.  The childhood years for those called or created mystic by God, flow with wonderment and protected acceptance even if often can be marked with illnesses or injuries that are in actuality archetypes of transitions from one phase into the next, with trials being introduced, and experiences of good versus evil.  These early transitions prepare the mystic for more intense and often painful transitions to come in adulthood.  The Lord is kind and merciful!

But as the mystic grows through temporal life, there are points of reckoning, and eventually the mystic's transitions graduate the mystic more fully into phases of assignments and increasing, purposeful fruitfulness.  Julian's life included the later transition of maturation and of writing with greater understanding of the meaning of the earlier showings; she wrote in fullness the long form of the showings which grew or branched out the splendor of God's metaphoric messages from the previous, more tentative and less-grasped, short form.

For a mystic, the Lord provides such vocations and "places" in the temporal world that will keep the mystic safe, in essence, from the distractions of the outer, so that what the Lord wishes of the mystic's purpose and mission is able to grow and bloom and produce fruit for the world either then or for a later era.  Thus, hermit life has always been a haven for mystics; being able to remove and go out into the deserts and forests and mountains or for some, removed to a cell in a monastery or room set apart, has always been ideal.  God protects His mystics; He provides for them in the hiddenness they require in order to fulfill their missions and be as God created them.

Being an anchorite, living walled off from the world for the most part, was ideal for God's mystics.  The evolution of hermit life in the Church of East and West provided for God's mystics through the centuries and up to current times, now, into the 21st century.  However, the hermit vocation now has shifted some with the regularization in the Catholic Church through the "official" recognition by canon law (603).  This has altered to a certain extent, by setting forth a type of legal guidelines of public profession of evangelical counsels and the formation of what is known as the "diocese hermit", an opening up of the hermit life to be expanded upon with additional interpretations and broadening of what was previously a natural haven or "place" in the Church for mystics.

That was the message of the dream and waking vision I had several days ago, and which caused me all the more to know that the Lord did not will me to continue in a canonical approval process.  I then could understand all the more the lack of inner peace that had pervaded for going on three months.  Of course, the Lord provided for me as He always provides for all of us who seek His will and have given ourselves fully to Him, who lay down our lives for Christ in various ways.  [I might share the dream and waking vision later on, but it really seems not of importance for others as it is one of those messages meant for me as a mystic to know why the way of the diocese hermit and canon law official recognition is not necessary nor desired by God for me.]

Over time, perhaps, if God wants me to know or understand further, I might learn if this would be the case for other mystics for whom hermit life and vocation are best for them given the silence of solitude and relative security and withdrawal and separation from the temporal world, and yes, the temporal church world.  But for now, God has provided for this mystic, just as in Julian's time he provided for her with the anchorhold built into the side of St. Julian Parish Church in Norwich, in the 14th century where she lived after recovering from illness in which she received the visions God desired for her to fathom and share through her writing of them.  (Julian's book of Showings is the first book written in English by a woman author.)

As to mystics being isolationists or separated from the church or from themselves, as some can mistakenly think or project from a temporal perspective or viewpoint, this is not the case.  Yes, mystics are essentially in God's mystical world, in His mystical church world, and most often live as authentic and fulfilled in God and have been as hermits for centuries, and as anchorites, and even known as religious recluses or religious solitaries.  But they are by no means without friends but usually have to limit the contacts as contrary to what some may think, people tend to be very drawn to mystics.

For the mystic to grow and bloom and produce the fruit that the Lord desires, there can be limitations placed, illnesses, accidents and injuries, circumstances that enforce removal and provide socially acceptable and temporally understandable reasons or even provide "cover" or excuses for the mystic to have the silence of solitude, the withdrawal from the world, the hiddenness from the temporal others who do not understand the natural and God-given spiritual understanding and inner senses of His mystics.

Perhaps at some point I ought write of the ways and means the Lord has utilized to keep His mystic to Himself, as well as the painful aspect of the mystic to have to agree to and accept the transitions phases of separating out from the temporal world to which the mystic does not belong and which hinders the mystic from the purposes and missions the Lord wills over the course of a mystic's life time.  And the transition point includes accepting that of a mystic not truly "belonging" to the temporal Catholic world of the parish or diocese, just as Julian of Norwich and other anchorites were literally walled off from the parish church other than for the Host to be given them.

And the same is true of those mystics in religious orders who were set off in a more secluded cell, kept as if incarcerated and in many cases unkindly so, were told not to communicate with the other religious.  This is why the desert fathers and mothers kept going further out into the desert or into the forests or up the mountains seeking huts and caves less and less accessible from the many persons who are attracted to these souls and want to befriend them, in today's times wanting to call, to email, to become friends, to go and do--these persons called mystics, misunderstood and often maligned by those the devil tends to use as tools or who are simply ignorant of the mystics and who do not grasp or or even oddly envy God's mystics chosen to be His own for spiritual purposes and missions interfacing the temporal world.

The mystic's life is always unique for a mystic is chosen and formed by God for His specific needs--just as are all souls created by God for His purposes, of which most are necessarily chosen to live and be and function in the temporal world, in the lay single or married vocations, or as religious brothers or sisters, virgins, widows, deacons, priests--and that only of the Catholic temporal world, not to mention the entire world of Christendom and the other major religions and sects with human beings being born and reared and seeking and doing, living, and being.

God bless His Real Presence in us!  St. Julian, please pray for me--pray for us all!  Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!  Sts. Jacinta, Francesco, and Lucia--pray for us!  God's will be done!

Catholic Hermit, God's Hermit: Continue to Live the Life

Awaking to rain and pain.  The severe nerve pain is drizzling and dripping, with occasional stabbing.  It seems as if my days and nights have become perpetual crucifixion.  What more can I give my Beloved Lord and His Church?

Remain in His Love.

I had not realized just how much of the past trials with their rejections would be ripped open all over again in flashbacks brought vividly to the present.  Even the thought of a third party, non cleric, to meet and discern and advise--it loomed in my pain as an ordeal that would surely result in scrutiny, judging, and rejection.

As I try to absorb by re-reading what my bishop has written to me, his words seem kindly, wise, sensible, accurate, and merciful.  He asks of me to continue to live the life I am obviously called to live.  He writes that the canon law is an "official" recognition; it does not speak to the validity of one's calling.  I do not need a particular title to live a life called by God to which I am living.

So the bishop is not asking me to relinquish my hermit vocation, profession, or vows.  He states I am to continue living the life to which I'm obviously called.  Yes, I am living it as best this imperfect mortal with an immortal soul can live it, for now.  But I have not lived it as well as I could have.  Always room for improvement here or on into the other side until I come to fullness of and in Christ's Light: Divine Union fully, perfectly, eternally.

I realize how much this painful, on-going crucifixion is interfering with the ability to process in the mind exactly what my bishop means other than by the help of the Holy Spirit by the peacefulness of the words written.  I'm thankful.  I will continue to live the life to which I am obviously called.

It is a life of much suffering, of being united to Christ in suffering with Him, in Him, one in Him on the cross.  And being one in and with Him, that is solus Deus, only God, God alone.  A hermit.  A Catholic hermit victim soul of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  A mystic of Christ and His Church who knows not from one moment to the next yet told by God my order is the Order of the Present Moment, my habit what I happen to be wearing at the present moment.

I'm wearing and have been, the pajamas that had been my late earthly dad's.  Might seem odd, but after his passing nearly 19 years ago, my mother was trying to distract by busying in going through some of his clothing and a few other items in their downscaled assisted living apartment in a lovely Arizona facility where they had retired years prior.  There was a fairly new pair of pajamas that were his; she commented she'd just hemmed them to adjust with his height-decreasing with age.  That and his hammer that had been his father's before him--somehow each item seemed meaningful to me.

Yes, odd, perhaps, but the hammer gave me strength and assurance when I found myself a few years ago having to gut an old farmhouse and renovate in order to be able to sell and move from that arduous existence. The pajamas had remained packed with most all else.  The other day I found them amidst summer-weight night-clothing.  The elastic of waist has weakened given the age; but I donned these pajamas and prayed, "Dad, I need some of your sensibility and strength."

I suppose the prayer surely answered.  Late yesterday made myself get out of bed and remove a light fixture from upstairs' bathroom so as to be able to remove the remaining drywall and get it into the trash container for this morning's collection and pick-up.  Practical to fill the large bin on wheels provided by the refuse department.  I thought of my dad and smiled at my connecting a tangible item with probably some DNA remaining in the fibers of the cotton; and despite the pain and weakness of my body, God granted me the fortitude to do what otherwise would be a minor task for one without the pain and weakness.  God provides.

Will I be able to be out of bed today?  I have no idea.  Thus far the pain level over two hours after taking the tedious-to-me pain meds (for which I thank God, of course) is still very high.  Been a nerve-burning, aching, and occasionally stabbing type pain that depletes and fatigues even after a night of blessed sleep.  I will try to be more out of bed today, perhaps get dressed in a tee shirt and jeans.

Whether or not that occurs--getting up from bed and dressing in clothing that might lead to some small amount of manual labor--I will simply keep going, and to continue to live the life to which I am obviously called.  It is that of Christ's life, of remaining in His love always, of doing and being in the Order of the Present Moment with any number of identifying titles including Catholic hermit, victim soul, mystic-- and knowing that only God validates such titles.

Here's another odd thing.  Just now came two excerpts--one from John (de Yepes) of the Cross' Dark Night of the Soul and the other from Faustina Kowalska's Diary.  I've not heard from the hermit-priest in awhile.  The two selections are absolutely perfection in content as to the degree of suffering I am living out in this present moment, and the focusing the hermit-priest provides through these two excerpts are from God Himself.  I know it.  Praise God for the hermit-priest sending these quotes, these words with Holy Spirit touches-of-grace, encouragement, and power.

I know Jesus is affirming me in that I chose what God wills.  It is what the Bishop was affirming in the email yesterday.  It is what the Holy Spirit had the hermit-priest send me just now from St. John of the Cross and St. Faustina.  God is using this hermit-priest in unexpected way, breaking through on this particular painful morning.  Thank you, Jesus! I remain in Your love and trust in You!

My calling:  Focus on Jesus!  Not at all an official recognition of canon law, my calling.  I don't need that.

Surely Jesus' body--even His feet--hurt like these feet on the ends of pained legs hurt, here, now.  If I focus on the pain of this body, will it be the same as meditating on Jesus' suffering, crucified body?  Yes, I am convinced this is so.  It's all connected:  my body and His Body, my love and His Love, my life and His Life.

"The reason the soul not only travels securely when in obscurity, but also makes greater progress, is this:  in general the soul makes greater progress in the spiritual life when it least things so, yes, when it rather imagines it is losing everything....  There is another reason why the soul has traveled safely in this obscurity, it has suffered:  for the way of suffering is safer, and also more profitable, than that of rejoicing and of action.  In suffering God gives strength, but in action and in joy the soul does but show its own weakness and imperfections.  And in suffering the soul practices and acquires virtue, and becomes pure, wiser, and more cautious."  ~ John of the Cross

"There are few souls who contemplate My Passion with true feeling; I give great graces to souls who meditate devoutly on My Passion."  ~ Jesus to Faustina

I wonder if participating in His Passion--if done willingly--and simply remaining in His Love, is a form of contemplating Jesus' Passion?  Also, it is best for my soul to travel in obscurity; no recognition by a canon law that can give validity.  Jesus validates.  The suffering itself is validation of Christ in us, of Christ's love for us.

God bless His Real Presence in us!

God's Hermit: Getting Clarification

A Catholic hermit or God's hermit, or something other, I am awaiting clarification.  I did kindly get word from the bishop.  All is well as far as it goes, but I asked for two specific clarifications so as to make sure I am on solid and accurate status as to my vocation, the term or wording.

As to the tremendous loss and sense of the deepest abandonment and suffering of soul that I've been experiencing, the Lord thankfully provided last night some needed help and understanding.  From a video of a lecture by the theologian and scholar Bernard McGinn, I am relieved to have a diagnosis, I guess one could call it, of what ails me so tremendously, currently:  mystical dereliction.

As McGinn spoke on this phenomenon or affliction that occurs at some point in a mystic's spiritual journey, and can be more than once or extend over time, a relief came and a knowing that the Lord is taking care of me; He is looking out for me.  Although I must face the reality that I truly do not "belong" per se or fit in, or have a "place" in such as parishes and of the temporal Catholic world, per se, my sense of belonging to the mystical Church and that the great sorrow of parting, of loss, of feeling alone among those who do fit in and belong, who have a "place" in parishes and the temporal Church, is a real experience but also mystical at its genesis or roots.  The experiential sensation and existential reality will lessen at some point; I will adapt.

In temporal aspects my misfit circumstances are actual.  My not having the energy to keep up with having to present the outer of what is not the inner, creates the sense of sadness and loss all the more.  The weariness grows with the increase of physical pain:  an inner and outer crucifixion, this temporal-mystical reality.  But there is breakthrough simply in the knowing that this has a name, this mystical dereliction.  It is reassuring in the familiarity I have with the mystics that McGinn used as examples--other real human beings who suffered similar mystical lives as I have lived and will until my earthly death.  May it come soon, Lord!

No matter what, all this will pass.  I will pass through this new-to-me level of horrific spiritual dereliction.  Dereliction, the word itself, says it all even to the point of inner and outer, mystical and physical, spiritual and temporal dilapidation.  I still am not intended by the Lord to need canonical approval as a diocese hermit.  The bishop seemed to write of this to me, but in my exhaustive emptying out and being filled with such pain of body, mind, heart, and soul that I am unable to function even when I try to push out of bed just now, to roll the trash bins to the curb, hidden in the darkness of night--I cannot grasp the bishop's full meaning.  So I sent it on to Fr. V. to please read and interpret, make sure I understand what the bishop is saying, what he means so that I am certain in his urging me to continue living the life that I obviously believe strongly the Lord has called me to live.

The pain has been so extreme that the electronic interference has annoyed me and wearied me all the more.  The laptop keeps going into some odd mode of the entire screen collapsing into about an inch-square, with a notice of a default os some sort.  This happens repeatedly over the past three days, requiring me to click on "ignore" and then use the cursor to take each corner of the tiny square and expand to full screen once again, and clear the mode that has locked.  My phone dialed someone's number--I had no idea who--when I merely set the phone on a stool when I'd gone to the kitchen on way to garage to deal with readying the trash bins to take to the curb.  The phone would not allow me to click on another screen to even see whose number was being accessed.

This type of electronic interference is part and parcel of some aspects of my life and has been for years--telekinesis of sorts--but higher levels of pain and the stress that creates in the bodily system then increases the interference instances. I cannot get the phone to stop the call so wait until I hear a voice.  Thankfully, it is a voice I recognize--a cousin.  Thankfully, also, the cousin understands about the phone and the electronic interference that results from my weird magnetic waves connected sometimes to the physical pain--and I've not shared how these aspects can happen not connected with pain and did in the years before the 1987 spine surgeries....

But I'm worn out with not only the physical pain and the mystical dereliction, but also the weirdness in general yet praise God it was the cousin whose voice I heard and not someone whose voice I'd not recognize.  Dr. H. called a bit later and is going to call again on Friday, but the first words he said to me were, saying my name and then a firm but with humor...and you are not at all crazy!  I mustered a laugh but said that I am so fatigued with various aspects crescendoing at once, or so it seems, and said at least I have an understanding for a major aspect and explained the "mystical dereliction" that I'd by chance learned via a youtube recorded lecture last evening.

I truly am most fortunate in the ways God reaches in when He knows I'm "done in" by too much in all levels and dimensions with added new aspects and elements enough that I cannot say that I've experienced this or that mystical effect prior--and often enough the devil gets involved enough so that I do not recognize the mystical elements of the sensations and onslaught of suffering in multiple levels.

I do realize that my writing has been incohesive--disjointed, convoluted, perhaps.  At times I've wondered if the physical pain being so terribly intense is a problem more than the inner sensing spiritually, such as the tremendous mystical dereliction--again, this word that describes perfectly, all.  Thus I put into draft a couple of posts, and I do not know yet, as mentioned above am asking clarification of the bishop on two aspects or points.  So I do not know yet if I will conclude this blog post as Catholic hermit or not.  As to what I will write or when, the Lord will need to guide me in whatever way or through whomever temporally or otherwise. And, given the high level of pain and its effect on what to me seems an inability of written expression, I might not write at all even if it has been cathartic and also a means for me to rise out of the pained, temporal body.

God bless His Real Presence in us!  The burning of the body, the pain throbbing and burning terribly much, nauseates.  It is as if I am being crucified repeatedly.  All that of CL603 and my not finding it inspiring or necessary seems like foolishness to me right now in comparison to very real, temporal suffering as if the blood will burst through my feet and hips, spine and head.  Who knows if what I try to express even in the above, makes any cognitive sense to a reader,  not that it needs to or is even helpful.  All I know is that I love God and His Church immensely, and the sorrow of facing the reality that such ones as myself are not meant for utilization other than hidden under His wings or tucked deep within His Heart:  solitary confinement in His protective custody.  I suppose is anchorite more than hermit, mystic more than person.

Catholic Hermit into God's Hermit: A Lovely, Holy Closing

Happened upon this quote from my Confirmation name saint, Sister Josefa Menendez.  She died on December 29, 1923 in Poitiers, France, in convent (Sacred Heart).  The diocese opened the cause for sainthood, to be a Servant of God, on November 30, 1948.  She was a mystic and victim soul, and is the first that a parish priest whom the Lord told me in locution I was to go.  He opted for private instruction for me; his choice.

He is the priest who said I'd come to the right place, that this was where I belong, that the Church is "filled with mystics" as he swept his arm in the direction of the parish church, as we met in his rectory office.  He was excited having read some of my writings and insisted on my sharing various spiritual experiences and declared I am a mystic and a victim soul--news to me....  He explained some what is a victim soul, but then left briefly and came back with a book he asked me to read, The Way of Divine Love--biography of Sr. Josefa Menendez.

Even Josefa's photo on the inside of the book was familiar to me from an encounter with someone--too much to explain.  But reading of her life and the messages to her from Jesus and Mary, her sufferings, her feeling different and not really fitting in for various reasons including her being Spanish but transferred to French convent of which she did not know the language.  Her mystical life and the stigmata further separated her from the others in essence, but the superior insisted on her being more removed physically, as well.

I obviously bonded with Josefa Menendez; and that is why the date of my hermit profession occurred on the evening of Dec. 29, 2000, and why I chose her rather than St. Teresa of Avila with whom I'm deeply attached, also, as she spoke through me in a doctoral psychology class in San Diego, CA, one Saturday in May 1988.  That is another experience of which I did not begin to get into with the two emails to the bishop nor the two to the parish priest.

This morning when I came upon this quote from Josefa, one of the locutions from Jesus to her, I found to be beautiful and better and best for a more holy concluding post on this Catholic Hermit blog site.

"It is My intention, also, to show souls that I never refuse grace, even to those who are guilty of grave sin; nor do I separate them from the good souls whom I love with predilection.  I keep them all in My Heart, that all may receive the help needed for their state of soul."  ~Jesus to Sr. Josefa Menendez

For much of this morning, given the pain is high level and burning type, I have had to rest but have wondered and asked the Lord what He wills next, and also have asked myself and the Lord, "What has happened to the goodness and kindness of the soul, to the expectant hope in God and delight in the unexpected that awaited  over 25 years ago, when younger and freshly entering into Christ's Holy Catholic Church?  I've prayed for my innate goodness to be prevalent, and am already receiving that anticipation of much good in God to open up in this next phase that He has in store.

I also came across, unexpectedly, the following letter written by another victim soul and priest saint of whom that first priest who privately instructed me and chose a most private Confirmation, which was for the best as it turned out due to yet another rare mystical experience that occurred.  Padre Pio, now Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, caught my mind and heart and guided me mystically, at one point in a waking vision telling me:  Silence and Penance!

Padre Pio (not then canonized) in the second year of my Catholic life warned me of the tricks of the devil, in a dream, and I did not heed his warnings and showings, and fell miserably into a trap of the devil.  Yes, the Lord gave me the strength to get out of the trap, but not without much struggle.  Yet, that victory which took a few months of battle, proved to be pivotal in securing a turning point at that juncture point!  I love Padre Pio!  And I'm praying all the more that He will intercede for me and pick up the training of my soul at this time of major transition.  I promise to try to heed this saint's lessons and instructions to the best of my imperfect, human ability.

"God's spirit is a spirit of peace; even after our most serious failings he makes us feel a sorrow that is peaceful, humble, and confident, precisely because of His mercy.  The spirit of evil, on the other hand, agitates, irritates, and makes us feel a sort of anger at ourselves when we have failed.  Yet it falls very much to ourselves to practice charity in the first place.  So when you are bothered by certain thoughts, the agitation never comes from God but from the devil, since God, being a spirit of peace, brings you serenity."  ~St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Letter 549

Padre Pio, I learned from reading several books on his life as well as what volumes of his letters thus far translated into English, passed from this earth on September 23, 1968.  My beloved maternal grandmother passed on October 19 of that very year.  I had no knowledge of Padre Pio nor any saints of the Catholic Church at the time, a senior in high school, and having been reared a devout Protestant of Methodist denomination.  Yet now, each year for the past 20 years, I have renewed my vow of consecration of suffering, as a victim soul of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and in recent years on Sept. 23--Padre Pio's passing from earth anniversary date.

How would I ever have known in 1968 that 27 years later I would be confirmed a Catholic, would realize that the strange inner life I experienced all my life that I was a mystic and also a victim soul--and that I would learn of Sr. Josefa Menendez and Padre Pio and so love them, count on them in loving friendship and needful of their holy instruction and mentorship?

Thus I have been praying, also, asking these saints, victim souls, and mystics to be guides yet again, more fully, since I've been so distracted for a long time, in the trials and mishaps and lessons learned in the temporal Catholic world.  Now that there is this conclusion of a major phase and awaiting what it next, there is an eager anticipation once again, a return of that sense of freshness and tremendous hope in God and faith greater than what my distractions and the exhaustion of so much sufferings of various types has seemingly allowed to break through in my mind, heart, and soul!

Thank you, dear readers, for the years you've been following off and on or consistently, my sharing of the spiritual journey of a consecrated (I realize consecrated to Christ) Catholic and hermit (not rightfully a Catholic hermit given the standardized and normative establishment now of CL603 for recognizing through canonical approval of diocese hermits.  Please pray for me, and I promise my prayers for each and all of you!

Above all:  Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, and God bless His Real Presence in us!
