Some Ways God Communicates with Souls

Perhaps a simple listing of some of the many ways God communicates with us, will be of practical help for those desiring God's intimacy in reality and actuality, each present moment of existence.

He speaks to us in His Living Word, the Scriptures.

He speaks to us through others.

He speaks to us in the Sacraments--all and each of them--in times of worship, formal and otherwise.

He speaks to us in dreams.

He speaks to us in waking visions.

He speaks to us in locutions--the still small voice that we hear when we become aware of it within us.

He speaks to us in simple, daily, life situations.

He speaks to us in major, complex life events and turning points.

He speaks to us in tiny flashes of interior images.

He speaks to us even by allowing the devil to tempt us, for in this we learn what is not good, not God.

He speaks to us in consolations and in desolations (peak, good experiences and difficult trials).

He speaks to us through pain and through joy, through sin and through love.

He speaks to us through our physical, bodily functions; learn to listen and be aware of the body.

He speaks to us through the Body, through the ways and what other Christians experience.

He speaks to us through written word, music, art, nature and all creation.

He speaks to us in thoughts, sounds, images, scents, touch--both external and interior, tangible and intangible.

He speaks to us through world events, weather, good and evil occurrences.

He speaks to us through those He sends from the other side of the veil, from heaven and purgatory.

He speaks to us from within the various rings, external and internal, surrounding the center of our beings:  senses, emotions, imagination, memory, understanding.

He speaks to us from within the center of our souls:  the intellect and will.

He speaks to us through angels and very much so our personally appointed guardian angel.

He speaks to us through the Church:  His Head and His Body.

He speaks to us through our conscience; strive in virtues to strengthen it.

There are other ways, no doubt, but this covers most ways in which God communicates and interacts with and in us, all the time.  Practice in awareness and discernment of His voice is a daily and nightly endeavor, if one desires to be one in love with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and receive His help and graces in our temporal and spiritual existence and to learn and fulfill our missions in life.
