Taking a step in time,
keeping in time with life itself,
finds life is now, not then or there: it's Thou.
Having the courage to go within,
to breach the gap of here to there,
and come back out
alive like the black nothing
around the moon and dead
to hoary star pain,
requires a semester (or several)
or just a blink of grace
in soul school.
I think, for my safety's sake, and my own
scaredy-cat faith, that
I shall tie a silk cord
and a bell of Sarnia
around my ankle, and give the other
end for you to hold.
So that if I go in
to the holy of holies
and don't come back out,
you can drag me back
to this world of sorrows
and joys--but wait until the Thou
jingles the bell and snaps the cord.
Only then will the change have occurred.
Only when I completely go
may I completely return.
[written 1-1-96, praising God who takes us on the journey; and shared now for there is a going in and hopefully more completely each step in time]
